plates, planes and apples

we have been busy for the past week. Some more of the sample melamine plates and platters have arrived. I took some snap shots of them, but they need to be photographed so you can see how beautiful they really are...I am in love though. You can have fun decorative plates and platters with out the worries of breaking and chipping. In a house of three little boys we need all the help we can get! Check out my Etsy link for more details.

Last week we had a little fall adventure. We jumped on a plane, caught a little snow on our tongues and ate apples right from the trees. This is a huge deal to my little guys, they never see snow, changing leaves or go on planes (mommy is deathly afraid of flying). Picking fruit...not enough.

enjoy your Halloween/Georgia Florida weekend. Treats, sweets and parties here we come!

how cute are these potatos?

no one will leave these cuties on their plate!

Potato Ghosts

  • Active time:30 min
  • Start to finish:1 3/4 hr
You and your guests will be utterly charmed when you see how easily mashed potatoes can be transformed into a gaggle of ghosts. Simply form them into pointy mounds and then personify—no, make that “ghostify” —them with seed “eyes.” Don’t be surprised if these become a new family must-have for Halloweens to come.
  • 4 lb large boiling potatoes (preferably white-fleshed)
  • 3/4 stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • Nigella seeds (sometimes mislabeled “black onion seeds”) or caraway seeds for garnish
  • Equipment:
a potato ricer or a food mill fitted with medium disk; a pastry bag with 3/4-inch plain tip
  • Peel and quarter potatoes, then cover with water in a 4-qt pot and season well with salt. Simmer, partially covered, until tender, 15 to 20 minutes.

  • While potatoes are simmering, heat butter and milk in a small saucepan until butter is melted. Remove from heat and cover to keep warm.

  • Preheat oven to 400°F with rack in middle.

  • Drain potatoes and force through ricer into a large bowl (or mixer bowl if using stand mixer). Beat in milk mixture, yolks, and 1/2 tsp each of salt and pepper with an electric mixer at low speed until combined.

  • Spread about one-third of potatoes in a buttered 1 1/2-qt shallow ovenproof dish. Transfer remaining potatoes to pastry bag. Pipe potatoes close together into 2 1/2- to 3-inch-high pointed mounds to form “ghosts” and garnish each mound with 2 seeds for “eyes.”

  • Bake until tips of ghosts are golden and potatoes are firm, 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Cooks’ note:

  • Potatoes can be piped into dish 1 day ahead and chilled, loosely covered with plastic wrap.

it's a party

I can't believe that it is already Wednesday. My Dad was in town for the weekend and left Monday. I am a little off for the week. We had such a great time, I love and miss him so much! Playing at the beach with the boys and burgers at Poe's, what a perfect Sunday afternoon we had.

Here are a few Birthday party invitation designs. I will re post with a few more of the matching cakes. If you are local you need to have Amy at Sugar Mama's Bakery make your next Birthday cake. My boys and I call her our ace of cakes :) I send her my designs and she creates a cake to match. And I LOVE to match. Is that monkey not the cutest cake???

they are here and I am in LOVE!

I think I may be partial to sweet little boy designs since that is all I have.  For the mailing/return label I tried something new, and they turned out beautiful! The labels are one long strip that wraps around to the back of the envelope. So on the front is the mailing address and the back has the return address. How cute are they? *If you have a question about a product or would like to place an order while the site is down for updates, please leave a comment and I will get back to you shortly.

det det and doggie

What a great idea, Custom Toy Portraits! The lovies in our house were loved almost to shreds. The sight of them brings back so many sweet memories. A must of my little guys lovies. I wonder if she will paint a bottle for my littlest guy? That is his love! And the prices are very reasonable, $60-$130 depending on the size. These paintings would look darling in your child's room or nursery of a younger sibling. Ours will hang in the stair way with a collection of family photos and other art work. Can't wait. View more photos and read about the artist Jennifer Maher here.  * photos courtesy of custom toy portraits by Jennifer Maher

Got to love all the colors

Don't you just love Diane Bergeron's bold use of color in her home. I would have been in heaven in that room as a teenager, did you spy the Rubie Green fabrics. Be sure to check out her full article from Vogue Living Australia and more beautiful photos here. That is my dream office. And I think she might love J Crew as much as I do!   * images courtesy of diane bergeron interiors

coming soon...

I have been working on a new website for months now. Still not finished with the design part.  It is a nightmare! I can make decisions for other people easy. Friends ask me, what kind of party should I have for my 2 year old? what color paint should I use in our family room? But when it comes to my business, my home, children I freeze. I am easily side tracked too, between the children's activities, freelance projects, life. The new site will be coming soon...there are a ton of darling invitations, baby announcements and new holiday cards, tags, etc!

my plate is full

Between car pool, football practice and homework, my plate designs have pretty much been placed on the back burner. But this morning I woke up from a dream about plate designs! Maybe it's because today is the first college football game of the season and I wanted to tailgate with my plates this year? These plates are great, Melamine plastic not the bad plastic, top rack dishwasher safe. Perfect for the beach, kids, picnic, tailgating, holidays, really anything. And just think of all the paper plates you will save. Even better the plates or trays are custom designed just for YOU! I will post a few designs in a bit.

It's the First

Another summer has flown by and my big boys are back at school. Now it's my turn for a first day in the world of blogging.
